Description: The Ultimate Whisky Company Bunnahabhain 2009 11 Year
Spirit: Scotch
Background: Here we have a Single Cask from Bunnahabhain. It was distilled on March 17th, 2009 and aged in a first fill sherry butt until it was bottled by The Ultimate Whisky Company on April 17th, 2020. If you have a good memory, this sounds very similar to a Signatory Vintage Bunnahabhain distilled on the same day and bottled at a similar proof. This one is cask #90073 (the SV was #90072) and comes in actually lower in abv at 67%. Let’s see if it is similar or not!
Distillery – Bunnahabhain
Bottler – The Ultimate Whisky Company
Brand – The Ultimate Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Selection – N/A
ABV – 67%
Age – 11 Years
Nose – Dark chocolate, raisins, stewed cherries, cherry pie, sourdough, almonds, dry leather, almost like a cold deli-roast beef note
Taste – Very rich with oak, fudge, cherry, maple syrup, chocolate covered raisins
Finish – One of the most prominent peanut notes I’ve had in a scotch, cocoa, toasted oak, leather, dark wheat bread, after the heat settles a little dark cherry comes in. A bit drying on the finish
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: This had a few similarities to the sister barrel, but there was definitely a strong difference between the two. This was definitely nuttier and oakier. They were about they same price, but I think I preferred the SV as it was a bit brighter with citrus fruit that helped cut through the heat of the alcohol. This was a bit darker, dryer, and nuttier which I think made the heat a bit more pronounced.
