Review #329 – Through The Grapevine Tessendier Lot 95: A Midwinter Nights Yak

Review #: 329
Description: Through The Grapevine Tessendier Lot 95
Spirit: Cognac

Background: A mouthful on the title, but this is a selection of Cognac made by Seelbachs, Bourbon Pursuit, Mash & Drum, Rare Bird 101, and t8ke, so an All-Star cast of pickers means this comes with high expectations.  This Cognac was distilled and aged by Tessendier in the Petite Champagne region of Cognac, France and bottled at cask strength without any additives.

Distillery – Tessendier

Bottler – La Maison Du Whisky

Brand – Through The Grapevine

Selection – Seelbach’s/Bourbon Pursuit/Mash & Drum/RareBird 101/t8ke

ABV – 55%

Age – 25 Years

Nose – Pretty bright fruit with some gummy bears and smarties candies, the grape is both sweet and rich with more raisin/nuttiness coming in slightly, a touch of espresso.  Given the age, it feels like it wants to get more of that dark, oaky influence but it is really bright.
Taste – Here’s where the richness really comes in, roasted walnuts, maple syrup, red wine, dark chocolate, espresso
Finish – Espresso and chocolate just continue, slight grape sweetness, touch of roasted nuts.

Score: 9
Would I buy a bottle? Ugh, I think I might have to add this to my next Seelbachs order.  This is delicious

Thoughts: What an excellent selection by this panel.  Super complex but rich and tasty all the way through.  I tend to second guess myself when giving really high scores, but when I just stop to enjoy every sip on the way, it’s hard to deny the level of greatness it is.
