Description: Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #107 “When In Rum”
Spirit: Rum
Background: Following in the vane of the Velier Unaged bottling, Privateer had Velier’s Kate Perry come out and assist in a run of distillate for a release of a single day, single run unaged rum. The spirit was bottled at 63% ABV. Let’s see how it compares.
Distillery – Privateer
Bottler – Privateer
Brand – Privateer
Selection – N/A
ABV – 63%
Age – Unaged
Nose – Dried pineapple, maple sap, cranberry, pine sol, it’s light and also surrounded with floral notes
Taste – Very sweet. Sugary syrup, pineapple juice, peach syrup, maple, banana. It’s far richer and more straightforward sweetness than the HV bottling.
Finish – Pineapple, smarties, wintergreen, a slightly funky, peppery rain water note lingers. If you drink it wrong it punishes you, but otherwise well maintained
Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Absolutely
Thoughts: Wow this stuff is good. Where the HV is more delicate and light with the fruit, this is heavy, sweet, and in your face. So much pineapple was in there for me. And a long, lingering finish with more intense flavors. Kate did a great job with this. It’s not the funky monster’s of Jamaican unaged, but it doesn’t need to be.
