Description: Clairin Ansyen Vaval #VV17BI-2: Aficionados/Seelbach’s Selection
Spirit: Rum
Background: The second single cask selected by Aficionados and Seelbach;s, this one was distilled at the Arawaks distillery and aged in an ex-rum barrel for 38 months before bottling at casks strength. Let’s see how this one compares to the ex-cognac from Casimir.
Distillery – Arawaks
Bottler – La Maison Du Whisky
Brand – Clairin
Selection – Aficionados/Seelbach’s
ABV – 46.8%
Age – 3 Years 2 Months
Nose – Carrot cake, cinnamon, orange cream, nutmeg, clove, ginger, caramel, diesel fumes. Tons of savory baking smells surround by a cloud of industrial stank
Taste – Light orange, ginger, plastic, black tea
Finish – Big hit of cinnamon, ginger, clove , tart orange, charred plastic, cherry cough syrup, rosemary
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No, I preferred the Casimir
Thoughts: This certainly wasn’t bad and had a lot of interesting, intense flavors. It just didn’t jive a whole lot with me. Very savory and lots of intense spices, but the really downturn for me was the cough syrup note that I just don’t particularly like if there’s not much sweetness to balance it. I fully understand people who like this, but the Casimir release was much more in my wheelhouse.
