Description: Old Fitzgerald Fall 2020
Spirit: Bourbon
Background:
Following the Spring release, this is the Fall release. This time, Heaven Hill used 14 year old wheated bourbon for the release.
This was tasted blind and notes were made prior to reveal, so keep that in mind while reading.
Distillery – Heaven Hill
Bottler – Heaven Hill
Brand –Old Fitzgerald
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50%
Age – 14 Years
Nose – Rich and buttery, brown sugar, vanilla cream, almond cake, maraschino cherry. Not super complex but very defined. Definitely bourbon
Taste – Super rich and sweet, brown sugar, sweet cooked pastry, cooked apple, cherry pie filling, almost reminds me of the milk of a bowl of cinnamon apple jacks cereal but you definitely used whole milk for it
Finish – Touch of oak comes in to counteract the heavy sweetness, buttered cornbread with a hint of cinnamon mixed into the batter
Guess: I think there might be a theme here and I might be thinking dusty bourbon. Going to say a pre-fire Heaven Hill. I think younger than 10 years but not much. 45% too?
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: One of those ones that you think doesn’t have a super high ABV but yet nails the texture on the tongue. Some very nice and sweet bourbon-y flavors but doesn’t dive too far into them, but very enjoyable for what it is.
