Description: Old Fitzgerald Spring 2022
Spirit: Bourbon
Background:
The Spring 2022 release of the Old Fitz decanter series from Heaven Hill. 2022 really brought some age to the series as this one was 17 year old stock.
Apparently I forgot to take a picture when I poured it so just imagine another boston with “4” written on the label.
This was tasted blind and notes were made prior to reveal, so keep that in mind while reading.
Distillery – Heaven Hill
Bottler – Heaven Hill
Brand –Old Fitzgerald
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50%
Age – 17 Years
Nose – Rich caramel, sweet cinnamon, cherry candy, no wait – caramel apple covers this a bit better, ginger snap cookie, coffee cake, there’s a pop of almost some trouble fruit like a muted mango.
Taste – Milk chocolate, red apple, orange oil. Not a whole ton of stuff going on here but it’s sweet and has decent texture.
Finish – Pop of heat, some grain, cinnamon, rye spice peeks its head in too, a little bit of torched orange rind too
Guess: Think this is more on the youthful side. 4 to 5 years, again around 45%?
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: Nice nose but a bit straightforward on the taste and finish. Kind of consistent with some of the lower-shelf dusty stuff I’ve had with a really fragrant nose and nice mouthfeel even if it’s not super complex. I’m really going to look stupid if I’m wrong.
