Description: Old Fitzgerald Spring 2021
Spirit: Bourbon
Background:
The 2021 Spring Old Fitz release from Heaven Hill. Before the large age statements of the 2022 releases, this one is actually the youngest of all the releases with *only* 8 year wheated bourbon being used.
This was tasted blind and notes were made prior to reveal, so keep that in mind while reading.
Distillery – Heaven Hill
Bottler – Heaven Hill
Brand –Old Fitzgerald
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50%
Age – 8 Years
Nose – Peanut brittle, snickers bar, stewed cherry, brown sugar and toffee
Taste – Fruit is much brighter with some strawberry jam, sugar cookie, salted caramel,
Finish – Bit hit of cherry, toasted tree nuts, rye spice, almost malty, candied ginger
Guess: That nuttiness is very profound on the back end, so thinking potentially some old Beam? Maybe Old-Granddad? It’s a touch warm so I think a minimum of 50% so maybe it’s OGD 114?
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? At $85 I say yes
Thoughts: Nice depth on this and I liked how the fruit was dark and cooked on the nose and then had a nice pop when you tasted it and then that roasted nutty flavor on the finish is a nice envelopment of the experience.
