Review #554 – Old Fitzgerald Fall 2021

Review #554 – Old Fitzgerald Fall 2021

Review #: 554
Description: Old Fitzgerald Fall 2021
Spirit: Bourbon

Background:

Following the spring release, Old Fitzgerald Fall 2021 decanter from Heaven Hill carries an 11 year age statement.  This is the last of the Old Fitz series (but one more blind to come) so while I’ve embarrassed myself a bit with my guesses, at least I knew they were all bourbon.

This was tasted blind and notes were made prior to reveal, so keep that in mind while reading.

Distillery – Heaven Hill

Bottler – Heaven Hill

Brand –Old Fitzgerald

Selection – N/A

ABV – 50%

Age – 11 Years

Nose – Tons of cherry and red apple, vanilla ice cream, sweet cinnamon, buttered pastry, little bit of coffee, some really nice charred barrel notes
Taste – Pineapple, apple, strawberry (so much fruit in there), light vanilla cream, espresso, milk chocolate.  Sweet but tame, a touch on the thin side but not by much.
Finish – Oaky and chocolate with pop of fresh apple.  The oak is nice and isn’t dry, warm but not hot.

Guess: Not really sure on this one for specifics.  Definitely bourbon, maybe some higher age.  12 years, 55-60%?

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: So cohesive.  A fun and complex experience from beginning to end.  Compared to some of the others a slight, slight thinner on the mouthfeel but I’m nitpicking.  This is just good whiskey through and through.
