Review #556 – Wild Turkey Father and Son

Review #556 – Wild Turkey Father and Son

Review #: 556
Description: Wild Turkey Father and Son
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: This is an export market bottling from Wild Turkey commemorating Jimmy and Eddie Russell.  I think it was about the equivalent of $60 (this one came from Japan) and is a 13 year bourbon coming in a 1L bottle.

Distillery – Wild Turkey

Bottler – Wild Turkey

Brand – Wild Turkey

Selection – N/A

ABV – 43%

Age – 13 Years

Nose – Burnt peanut brittle, spicy tobacco, toasted rye bread, strawberry jam, burnt match stick, lots of charred oak
Taste – Thin vanilla, dry oak, burnt toast, slight hint of fruit
Finish – A bit aggressive with the dry and bitter flavor, mostly oak and spice

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? At retail, it’s a fun bottle for sharing

Thoughts: It’s a bit aggressive with the oak.  I do like it to share with others given the name and age and lower proof, but breaking it down it’s very strong with the spice and oak and then drops off sharply both in flavor and substance thanks to the proof.  It’s a good competitor to Dickel 15 year but obviously a lot harder to get your hands on.
