Description: New Riff Maltster: Bourbon With Malted Rye
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Much like the previous maltster with wheat, this one is used with malted rye. It cranks up the percentage though, with 65% corn, 30% malted rye, and 5% malted barley. Still 5 years and BiB.
Distillery – New Riff
Bottler – New Riff
Brand – New Riff
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50%
Age – 5 Years
Nose – Toasted rye bread, torched cherry, skillet corn bread, dark chocolate, pretty strong but dry oak, gingerbread, blackberry
Taste – Blackberry jam, caramel syrup, milk chocolate, rich coffee. Hits sweet but quickly balances out
Finish – Sweetness fades with nice oak and spice, black tea. That slight bitterness balances the initial sweetness but doesn’t linger very long
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: Really nice. Love all the fruit that comes through. It remains dynamic yet balanced which always makes for a fun pour. It isn’t anything mind blowing, but this is a perfect pour when you just want something that tastes like good bourbon even if you don’t want to dissect it.
