Review #113 – J.T.S. Brown Bottled-In-Bond

Review #113 – J.T.S. Brown Bottled-In-Bond

Review #: 113
Description: J.T.S. Brown Bottled-In-Bond
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Heading to the bottom shelf for this review, JTS Brown is named after John Thompson Street Brown Jr. who started a liquor business with his half brother that has since transformed into the Brown-Forman company. The bourbon brand dates back all the way to 1855 and today is part of Heaven Hill and their substantial number of brands designated Bottled-In-Bond (thought there is also an 80 proof version). Coming in at around $12 per bottle, (but I believe with limited distribution) let’s see how it tastes.

Distillery – Heaven Hill

Bottler – Heaven Hill

Brand – J.T.S. Brown

Selection – N/A

ABV – 50%

Age – NAS

Nose – Creamed corn, fresh cut grass, charred oak, a bit of harsh spice from the alcohol
Taste – Brown sugar syrup, cherry, for being 50% it’s surprisingly thin
Finish – Spicy cinnamon, tobacco, good length on the heat

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Pretty standard bourbon flavors going on, especially for a “bottom shelfer” but the finish here is what has set it apart from some of the others.  Usually at this price point the finish is the first to drop off or be harsh, but this one was real nice and that’s what helps it be a fine sipper for me.  For $12 though, it’s plenty great of a value.
