Description: Buffalo Trace: Loch and K(e)y Society Single Barrel
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Today we have a Single Barrel selection of Buffalo Trace coming from Loch and K(e)y Society which runs out of Julio’s Liquors in Westborough, MA. I actually grew up the next town over from Julio’s and would go with my dad to do the bottle return when we had enough soda bottles there. He would then pick out a six pack of craft beer and I’d get a pack of root beer or ginger beer. Years later, I find out this is one of the best liquor stores on the east coast that I completely neglected when I came of age. I made the journey back and picked up this bottle when I was there at the end of 2019. Fun fact, if you have the barrel number, you can email Buffalo Trace and they will give you the stats on the selection. So this one was actually aged in Warehouse H for 8 years and 5 months.

Thoughts: L&K has quite a bit of notoriety in the whisky world, which I wish I knew about earlier because I grew up right by it, but only discovered how great of a store it was after moving away. They have a great selection, so when I was back up for the holidays, I wanted to swing by and see what picks they had. This bottle had a bit of a premium on it, but I decided to go for it knowing typically the selections would be worth it. For $35, this was quite a disappointment when the regular bottle can be had under $25. The nose was great but the taste was so generic and thin and uninspiring. Nothing elevated it beyond the standard expression.
