Review #153 – Woodford Reserve Double Oaked: Bubbles Wine & Spirits

Review #: 153
Description: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked: Bubbles Wine & Spirits
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Woodford’s Double Oaked line comes from taking their standard bourbon and then finishing it in a second, new charred barrel for a year. This one was selected by Bubbles Wine & Spirits in Kansas City.

Distillery – Woodford Reserve
Bottler – Woodford Reserve

Brand – Woodford Reserve

Selection – Bubbles W&S

ABV – 45.2%

Age – NAS

Nose – Oak, heavy cherry syrup, peppery, some spearmint, cocoa powder
Taste – Lots of cherry, vanilla, chocolate, sweet corn, it’s pretty thin
Finish – A bit hot, peppery and tannic.  Little else comes in on the finish.

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: I was really excited to get this bottle, as a lot of people praise the selections for being very intense in flavors.  From the first pour I was a bit disappointed.  The bottle started out extremely oaky and chocolaty, to the point of being unbalanced.  It ended up trending more fruity with tons of cherry which helped the flavor level out, but ultimately, like how I feel about Woodford in general, it was still thin, basic, with nothing interesting happening on the finish.
