Review #190 – Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition 2019

Review #: 190
Description: Four Roses Small Batch Limited Edition 2019
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: The 2019 release of Four Roses annual blended bourbon consisting of generally older stock of various recipes. This year it contains 21 year OBSV, 15 year OESK, 15 year OESV, and 11 year OESV. Let’s see if it lives up to the hype or whether it falls flat like the 2018 did for me.

Distillery – Four Roses

Bottler – Four Roses

Brand – Four Roses

Selection – N/A

ABV – 56.3%

Age – 11 Years

Nose – Bright and floral, rich caramel, sweet cherries, maple sugar
Taste – Syrupy and almost rum like sweetness, chocolate covered cherries, maple sugar, coke cola, much denser feeling than the 2018
Finish – Chocolate, pleasant oak, leather, fruit jelly, black pepper

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes, at retail.

Thoughts: The 2019 filled in basically all the things that were missing from the 2018.  Just from the nose I could tell that there was more body and substance behind this whiskey.  Heavier, richer, more pronounced, this was what I wanted.  I’d be happy with a bottle at retail price, but I wouldn’t pay a premium for it.
