Review #: 195
Description: El Dorado Albion 2004
Spirit: Rum
Background: Similar to the Skeldon release I previously reviewed, the Albion release from El Dorado seeks to recreate the AN Marque of the Albion Distillery that closed in 1968. This release utilizes a wooden coffee still to try and recreate that flavor that was lost long ago. It then was aged 13 years in a bourbon cask. I have obviously never tried any of the original so I can’t comment on if it resembles it, I can at least try it to see if it’s any good.
Distillery – Demerara Distillers Limited
Bottler – Demerara Distillers Limited
Brand – El Droado
Selection – N/A

Nose – Heavy caramel, toffee, bruleed banana, papaya, dried tobacco
Taste – Burnt/sour caramel, unripe melon, lots of sweetness but balanced with oak that brings in some dry taste
Finish – Cigarette tobacco, freshly dug up earth, gingersnap cookie, lingering ginger spice.
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: This was tasty and much like the Skeldon I previously reviewed, I thought this had a great richness with sweetness that was balanced with the oakiness. This wasn’t quite as complex so it gets dinged a little. While a solid rum, I wouldn’t put up the several hundred dollars necessary to get a bottle.
