Review #241 – Knob Creek Single Barrel: The Bottle Shop “Kicken Chicken”

Review #: 241
Description: Knob Creek Single Barrel: The Bottle Shop “Kicken Chicken”
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Another in my short series of KC Single Barrels.  This one was distilled on February 11th, 2014 and aged in warehouse W-X, floor F-04, rick R-048 before being selected by The Bottle Shop on March 20th, 2019 (I think, the picture I was provided is pretty blurry).

Distillery – Jim Beam

Bottler – Jim Beam

Brand – Knob Creek

Selection – The Bottle Shop

ABV – 60%

Age – 15 Years 1 Month

Nose – Tons of dark cherry, cocoa, burnt marshmallow, a sharp sweetness but quickly balanced with oak and leather
Taste – Very rich and thick mouthfeel, chocolate, dark cherries, fudge, maple syrup, almost a white sugary sweetness, touch of orange marmalade just in the background
Finish – Initial hit of sweet cinnamon then turns a bit spicy with allspice and ginger, fudge, roasted tree nuts, a touch of orange oil, light rye spice and toasted oak linger on the tongue for a while without being aggressive.

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Oh yeah, this is the good stuff.  Lovely nose that transitions into a just decadent taste and a lovely finish that sticks with you making you want another sip.  Might be a touch on the sweet side for one, but I would go through a bottle of this quickly.
