Review #246 – Copper & Kings American Dry Gin

Review #246 – Copper & Kings American Dry Gin

Review #: 246
Description: Copper & Kings American Dry Gin
Spirit: Gin

Background: An interesting gin from C&K, as it is distilled entirely from Apple Wine made from fresh pressed apple juice.  No neutral grain spirits are used.  It is double distilled in their copper still and botanicals including whole juniper berries, coriander, angelica, and others that are steeped in the low-wines before being distilled a second time with citrus peels and lavender in a gin basket.  So pretty different but should be fun to try!  Bottled at 46% ABV and NCF.

Distillery – Copper & Kings

Bottler – Copper & Kings

Brand – Copper & Kings

Selection – N/A

ABV – 46%

Age – Unaged

Nose – Almost smells like a hopped cider: apple, fresh lime zest, bitter juniper, a little bit of sweet ginger
Taste – Citrus oil, semi-dry apple cider, anise
Finish – Botanicals really kick in with cinnamon, ginger, anise, lemon and lime zest linger in the back but no real heat.

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: This is really different as far as gin goes, but I think it works.  The use of apple wine really takes it in a different direction but I think it adds a nice dimension to it.  It makes it nice to sip on but doesn’t change the dynamic too much that it would need a special cocktail to utilize it.
