Review #: 260
Description: Dramfool Blended Malt
Spirit: Scotch
Background: This is a blended malt made by Dramfool. It contains malt from Macallan, Highland Park, and Glenrothes and aged in a sherry butt (likely Oloroso but not certain) for 11 years.
Reviews 259 – 264 were done as part of the Dramfool Spirit of Speyside tasting. This took place on Zoom, headed by Dramfool co-founder, Colin Fraser. There were about 15 active participants on the Zoom call giving notes and impressions while we tasted and the contents were revealed after some tasting and discussion. Notes are therefore a little brief.

Nose – Earthy wood/moss, almost a cucumber note, honey and malt come through with some air time along with lots of freshly baked sourdough. Dry nuttiness, red apple, leather
Taste – Dark fruits, lots of raisins and dates, maple syrup, roasted chestnuts, bright lemon and just a hint of bitter malt
Finish – A little bit of sulphur comes through but leaves quickly, almost toasted oak, dark chocolate, still rich and sweet though balanced by that touch of bitterness
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Probably
Thoughts: So I didn’t get all the exact information on this cask due to some technical difficulties with zoom, but I got the key details. The sulfur was a little there at first but pretty quickly subsided and stayed away with subsequent sips. The sweet and bitter complimented pretty well to be enjoyable. Not sure of the cost on this one or it’s status, but certainly wouldn’t mind having a bottle of it to myself.
