Description: Lagavulin 8 Year
Spirit: Scotch
Background: This is one of the standard bottlings from Lagavulin. Where the 16 year can vary wildly in price depending on your market, this one is meant to compete more with the Laphroaig 10 and Ardbeg Wee Beastie bottlings as a bit more budget friendly, but still plenty peaty.
Distillery – Lagavulin
Bottler – Lagavulin
Brand – Lagavulin
Selection – N/A
ABV – 48%
Age – 8 Years
Nose – There are some nice, bright stone fruits: cherries, red apples, lemon peel, charcoal smoke
Taste – Candied lemon, vanilla, sweet malt, somehow both oily/coating around the mouth and also a bit thin as far as flavors go
Finish – Peat really comes in, bit of saltwater brine, some dark chocolate, lemon juice, tiny bit of bitter oak
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? I think so, if you can get it around $50
Thoughts: It’s not as punchy as Frog 10, which was a bit richer and fuller to me, but this was a little lighter and more delicate. It works though and has enough complexity to keep me interested while not trying to be something it isn’t. I wouldn’t mind a bottle of this around the house if it cost me under $50.
