Review #273 – Wild Turkey Rare Breed

Review #273 – Wild Turkey Rare Breed

Review #: 273
Description: Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: This is the batched barrel proof offering from Wild Turkey.  They make claims of 6-10 year bourbons in the batch.  This one was purchased in 2019 and is the 116.8 proof batch.  Laser code (since this matters to some people) is LL/H.  Let’s dive in.

Distillery – Wild Turkey

Bottler – Wild Turkey

Brand – Wild Turkey

Selection – N/A

ABV – 58.4%

Age – NAS

Nose – Nice and rich with cocoa, dark raspberries and cherries, fresh baked cornbread, touch of toasted oak, some roasted peanuts
Taste – Lots of sweetness, creamy caramel, yellow cake with vanilla frosting, cinnamon syrup, brownie
Finish – Lots of cinnamon and roasted nuts, lots of baking and barrel spices linger; clove, ginger, nutmeg which bleeds into toasted oak as well.  A little maraschino cherry sneaks in there as well

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: What more could you ask for a barrel proof bourbon at this price? Full bodied and rich, widely available, reasonable cost.  It retails around $50 which the only downfall is if it’s worth more than a handle of 101?  That more speaks to the value of 101.  I got this though for $38 and there isn’t much that can compete.
