Review #277 – Copper & Kings The Ninth. A Symphony In Orange Gin

Review #: 277
Description: Copper & Kings The Ninth. A Symphony In Orange Gin
Spirit: Gin

Background: This is a gin from Copper and Kings that is aged in barrels that held their Destilliare Orange Curacao.  The distillate is made from apple wine from juice and orange blossom honey (they don’t use NGS) and uses juniper, bitter orange peels, sweet orange and grapefruit peels, coriander, cardamom, grains of paradise in a maceration with the low wines and then vapor distill blood orange, sweet orange, and jasmine into the spirit.  A lot going on there but sounds interesting.  This was tasted at the distillery so notes may be a bit brief.

Distillery – Copper & Kings

Bottler – Copper & Kings

Brand – Copper & Kings

Selection – N/A

ABV – 45%

Age – NAS

Nose – Orange oil, rosemary, nice wood structure, cardamom, almost smells like orange pound cake with the sweetness behind it.
Taste – Sweet & light, orange oil, rosewater, light vanilla, VERY floral
Finish – Juniper pops, more rosemary and savory spices, a little bit of pepper settles in and keeps it grounded.

Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: The heavy orange influence is clearly there, but it doesn’t over step like it had the potential to do.  The floral aspect on the palate was very dominant and took it a step back, though this feels like it would be the perfect cocktail ingredient and that is why I would want a bottle on hand.
