Review #278 – Copper & Kings The History of Lovers Rose Gin

Review #: 278
Description: Copper & Kings The History of Lovers Rose Gin
Spirit: Gin

Background: This is a gin made from an apple wine base (no NGS used), with a focus of rose and hibiscus.  The low wines are macerated with crushed juniper, rose hips, rose water, sweet orange, tangerine, lime and pink grapefruit peels, jasmine and lavender petals, coriander, pepper corns and licorice root, vapor distilled with rose hips and pink grapefruit, and then flash macerated with rose hips, hibiscus petals, and strawberry juice post distillation.  A lot to grasp there (but I love the transparency).  This was tasted at the distillery so notes may be a bit brief.

Distillery – Copper & Kings

Bottler – Copper & Kings

Brand – Copper & Kings

Selection – N/A

ABV – 45%

Age – Unaged

Nose – Very savory on the nose with basil, rosemary, pink peppercorn, light pine and juniper
Taste – Very silky mouthfeel, honey syrup, rose water, lavender
Finish – Turns more peppery and touch of bitter juniper.  The heat is well controlled

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: There’s something about savory notes that I really like in the gin.  You would think with the list of botanicals that it may get heavy on the rose and hibiscus, but I found it well balanced, and one of the best mouth feels on a spirit I’ve had.  So silky and smooth across the tongue.
