Review #306 – Jim Beam White Label

Review #306 – Jim Beam White Label

Review #: 306
Description: Jim Beam White Label
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: The standard Bourbon offering from Beam, their white label is cheap, plentiful, and likely a blend of 1000s of barrels that don’t stand out.  No age statement and 40% ABV, this is kicking off a mini series of bourbons/rye that this one will likely be the best of the bunch.  So let’s see

Distillery – Beam

Bottler – Beam

Brand – Jim Beam

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Vanilla, some funky oak and grain, real mustiness and greeness to it, more air brings more ash and burnt corn
Taste – Light sugary sweetness, caramel, spring water, charcoal
Finish – Oak turns bitter, dry black pepper, acidic and not very good

Score: 3
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: Not starting out on a great note.  Just a few too many negative things when there are similarly priced products that taste better (I’d go for Old Granddad even within the Beam portfolio).  I get it’s supposed to be cheap, but even here I wouldn’t want to use this in a cocktail beyond mixing with coke.
