Review #: 321
Description: Knob Creek: r/Bourbon “Course Marshal Noe”
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: A great way to tie in Beam and Holey Moley, “Course Marshal Noe” was selected by r/Bourbon in 2020. It was barreled on May 25th, 2011 and aged in warehouse X, floor 3, and rick 40 until September 4th, 2020. Tasted at 125.1 proof, it’s then bottled at the standard 120 proof.
Distillery – Jim Beam
Bottler – Jim Beam
Brand – Knob Creek
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 60%
Age – 9 Years
Nose – Syrupy even on the nose with peanut brittle, caramel, imitation maple syrup, toasted oak
Taste – Yep, definitely rich and syrupy, more legit maple now, peanut brittle, vanilla ice cream, dark cherry, figs. It’s somehow both sweet and balanced.
Finish – Charred oak comes in strong but nicely, peanut brittle, cinnamon. Long lingering embers but not overly hot.
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: Knob Creek continues to stand as one of the great values in bourbon. Pretty big age statement, high proof but not ridiculous, and around $50. This seems pretty on profile for Beam, but definitely dialed in and cohesive. This is one I’ve been sharing with friends a bit to show off how solid KC can be and picks are generally available. Though most of the 15 year ones are gone, 9 years is nothing to sneeze at.
