Description: Bacardi 8 Year
Spirit: Rum
Background: I’ve heard this as the Goldilocks of the Bacardi line up. An actual age statement, but with some dosage, it’s still fairly affordable and available. Still at 40%, it shouldn’t be too hard to be better than the gold though.
Distillery – Bacardi
Bottler – Bacardi
Brand – Bacardi
Selection – N/A
ABV – 40%
Age – 8 Years
Nose – Definitely some nice oak on the nose, buttered popcorn, caramel toasted vanilla, toffee, cooked banana
Taste – Sweeter and creamier (though might be just some sugar), caramel, vanilla custard, banana pudding
Finish – Gets a bit bitter but not terrible, short, barrel char, burnt sugar, toast. There’s a faint plasticky note but it never gets too pronounced.
Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? Probably not
Thoughts: This is certainly a step up. It’s not bad, just a bit straightforward. A little too sweet for my taste, though not cloying, and a short, uninteresting finish leaves me a bit dissatisfied, but I can see why others like it
