Review #: 339
Description: George Dickel Bottled-In-Bond 13 Year Distilled 2007
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: This is the 3rd release of Dickel BiB. Following the 11 year release, this one is aged 13 years like the initial release. Dickel received high praise for these bottlings as they have been put out with pretty hefty age statements and relatively low cost. This batch has marked an increase, but still retails around $45. Nicole Austin did say that this would really be the start of the product line finding its path and ability to create consistency over releases, so let’s see how this one tastes.
Distillery – Cascade Hollow
Bottler – Cascade Hollow
Brand – George Dickel
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50%
Age – 13 Years
Nose – Peanut brittle, praline, very nice oak, slight smarties candy, gummy bears, milk chocolate. Reminds me of a PayDay candy with a slight touch of bright fruit
Taste – Vanilla, brown sugar, peanut brittle, fruit leather. Oak flavor isn’t super strong but it’s apparent as the sweetness is very much kept in check and a touch of tannins
Finish – Lots of roasted peanut and toasted oak come in, slight cinnamon spice, dark chocolate
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: This was really an enjoyable drink and think the age really gives a nice balance of oak and sweetness. Lots of peanuts too. I think this may be a solid alternative to something like a Knob Creek SiB or the 12 year release. There is a touch of Dickel fruit gummy, but i think it’s sweeter and more candy than chalky vitamin. If you don’t like Dickel, this probably won’t change your mind, but if you like the profile and a bit more oak, this will be right up your alley.
