Description: Milam & Greene Single Barrel: Selected by r/Bourbon
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: This is a single barrel of Dickel bourbon, bottled by Milam and Greene. Selected by t8ke for r/Bourbon, I figured this would be a good comparison after the Dickel BiB as this also was aged for 13 years. It is bottled at a cask strength of 55.7% ABV so let’s see how the extra 11.4 proof points affect it.
Distillery – Cascade Hollow
Bottler – Milam & Greene
Brand – Milam & Greene
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 55.7%
Age – 13 Years
Nose – Much creamier on the nose than the OB, cream soda, chewy caramel, nougat, milk chocolate. Maybe some mild fruitines but hard to distinguish. Light cherry?
Taste – Red apple, vanilla, cream soda, caramel, sweet cream butter, brown sugar. Reminds me of pecan pie but the nuttiness is very subtle. Leans a bit more on the sweetness.
Finish – More cream soda but also some cherry cola. A little tingle of heat that gives the sensation of carbonation almost. Roasted tree nuts, oak pops through a little bit too
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: This was a fun one. I would love to give this blind to people who voice their dislike for Dickel distillate, because I didn’t get anything distinct from it. It was definitely a lot creamier and a bit sweeter than the 13 year BiB but still very cohesive and has the oak to bring balance. My favorite is that the finish doesn’t bring heat, but the alcohol does bring a tingle, and with the cream soda notes it really completes it with a carbonation like feel.
