Description: George Dickel 15 Year Single Barrel
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: This is a distillery bottling of George Dickel from a single barrel and aged for 15 years. While higher proofs and big age statements have been bringing extreme premiums to the bourbon market, Cascade Hollow decides to bring out 15 year single barrels for $60. Now, I’ve seen conflicting things, but nowhere on the label does it say “barrel proof” or “cask strength” and even Dickel’s press releases noted “minimal water added” so I don’t think these are quite barrel proof, but at least are higher. This one clocks in at 50.4% ABV.
Distillery – Cascade Hollow
Bottler – Cascade Hollow
Brand – George Dickel
Selection – N/A
ABV – 50.4%
Age – 15 Years
Nose – Definitely oaky, cherry, gummy bears, waffle cone, roasted corn, vanilla bean
Taste – Pretty tannic and bitter; sour cherry, dry caramel, slight chalky vitamin/antacid note in there
Finish – Long and oak, tannic, charcoal, roasted corn, sour cherry
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? The value is apparent, but it is a bit oaky for me.
Thoughts: This was a bit disappointing as the nose on it was rich and complex and reminded me of some of the Bourbon Pursuit 15 year bottlings of Dickel that I really loved. The taste though showed the extensive maturation and didn’t really let up. While I haven’t had it, I have to image that if you are a fan of Elijah Craig 18, this would be a solid replacement that is cheaper and more available.
