Review #347 – Clairin Sajous “Ansyen” Cask SA17OL-1

Review #347 – Clairin Sajous “Ansyen” Cask SA17OL-1

Review #: 346
Description: Clairin Sajous “Ansyen” Cask SA17OL-1
Spirit: Rum

Background: Wrapping up the aged Clairin’s selected by Kate Perry for LMDW, Sajous comes from the Chelo Distillery in Saint Michel de l’Attalaye in Haiti.  The rum was distilled and put into an Oloroso sherry cask on November 30th, 2017 and aged for 29 months before bottling.

Distillery – Chelo

Bottler – La Maison Du Whisky

Brand – Clairin

Selection – N/A

ABV – 56.4%

Age – 2 Years

Nose – Upfront it’s a little plasticky and sharp with some acetone (reminds me of Savanna Thunderstruck), but underneath it you start to get some nice brown sugar, cinnamon swirl bread, banana bread, orange cleaning solution, nutmeg
Taste – Prune juice, cherry cough drop, there is a searing metallic taste that flares up and just pierces my tongue.  It’s super coating without the benefit of a thick mouthfeel
Finish – Metallic, robitussin cough syrup, hot and tacky.  Burnt plastic

Score: 2
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: This just isn’t for me.  The super strong metallic and cough syrup note is just so overpowering and not something I enjoy.  A shame since the nose really rounded out nicely.  I don’t think it’s bad quality so I won’t judge anyone who likes it, but maybe aging cane juice just isn’t for me when it already starts out so funky.
