Review #383 – Clairin Le Rocher: Aficionados/Seelbach’s Private Batch

Review #: 383
Description: Clairin Le Rocher: Aficionados/Seelbach’s Private Batch
Spirit: Rum

Background: This is a private batch of Le Rocher rum selected by Aficionados and Seelbach’s.  Distilled from sugar cane syrup, Bethel Romelus produces a rum similar to Jamaican rums with a dunder-like process.  Made from the harvest of 2018 and using native yeasts, it is bottled at a still proof of 46.9% ABV

Distillery – Bethel Romelus

Bottler – La Maison Du Whisky

Brand – Clairin

Selection – Aficionados/Seelbach’s

ABV – 46.9%

Age – Unaged

Nose – Menthol, fresh cut grass, sugar cane field, there’s a barn yard like funk in there, but everything is fresh and bright with this aura of sugary sweetness around it.  Very unique.
Taste – Lemon grass, vanilla cream, white sugar
Finish – Grassy, earthy, peppery, sage, lemon peel.  It’s just super earthy with enough sweetness to keep it so well balanced.

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes, and I bought a backup

Thoughts:  This is like a perfect storm of rum.  The earthy, grassy notes of an Agricole, the sweetness of a molasses rum, and a slight tinge of funky Jamaican.  I do like sweetness so the sugar note that wraps around really plays to my tastes, and I will put my foot down that it makes this an amazing cocktail rum.  Really great and versatile.
