Description: Grangestone Single Malt Rum Finish
Spirit: Scotch
Background: This is a Highland Single Malt coming from the William Grant & Sons brand of Grangestone. At least in the US, I think this is a Total Wine “Spirits Direct” brand but not sure if you can get it elsewhere. The internet seems to think that this is coming from Kininvie but no confirmation of it. This particular one was aged in ex-Bourbon and then finished in Rum casks.
Distillery – Undisclosed
Bottler – William Grant & Sons
Brand – Grangestone
Selection – N/A
ABV – 40%
Age – NAS
Nose – Kind of a Dr. Pepper/Cola smell, very malt forward, sweet pancake batter, perfume, lemon grass. Not much distinctive rum notes, maybe faint orange?
Taste – Lemon, apple, slightly sweet malt but not too much
Finish – Very short, no real heat or spice, a little bit of malt and lemon
Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: There’s nothing horribly bad here, but it’s dreadfully boring. There isn’t even much rum influence to at least shake it up. Kind of straight forward and simple.
