Review #452 – Pursuit United Rye

Review #452 – Pursuit United Rye

Review #: 452
Description: Pursuit United Rye
Spirit: Rye

Background: This is a rye whiskey comprised of 3 different mashbills distilled from Bardstown Bourbon Co and Sagamore Spirit.  Blended and bottled by Pursuit Spirits, I was a big fan of the bourbon so I hope the rye can live up to it too.

Distillery – Various

Bottler – Pursuit Spirits

Brand – Pursuit United

Selection – N/A

ABV – 54%

Age – 3 Years

Nose – Cocoa, tobacco, herbal rye, orange peel, a little bit of youthful grain and oak is in there but not tons
Taste – Maple syrup, vanilla custard, dark chocolate, coffee
Finish – Pop of milk chocolate maraschino cherry, really nice and warm rye spice, tobacco, brownie batter, maple syrup

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: A little worrisome when you see that the youngest whiskey is only 3 years and then there is a hint of that on the nose, but it all goes out the window when you drink it.  Great depth and the finish is warm and complex.  The Pursuit guys are doing a hell of a job with blending and looking forward to more of their releases in the future.
