Description: 1792 Bottled-In-Bond Single Barrel: Banners
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: This is a single barrel selection of Barton 1792’s Bottled-In-Bond brand. This was selected by Banners, a sports bar in Lexington. I found myself there because when I first visited Lexington, I posted asking for any places that would have interesting single barrels. The owner messaged me saying they had some and to stop by if I had a chance. After doing a few distillery tours, getting some mid afternoon food sounded perfect so we stopped by. The owner was nice enough to pour this selection as well as offer some interesting bottles to buy. I enjoyed this one so I grabbed a bottle. Now to sit down with it and look at it a little closer.
Distillery – Barton
Bottler – Barton
Brand – 1792
Selection – Banners
ABV – 50%
Age – NAS
Nose – Bananas foster, bright cherry pie, vanilla custard, melted chocolate, sweet tart candies
Taste – Lots of vanilla, cherry juice, buttered pastry, spree candy, caramelized banana
Finish – Oak starts to come in, cherry pie, baking spices, hard caramel, a touch on the warm side
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: A lot like I remember; bright with fruit and vanilla, a touch warm though, but for $40 it’s really solid. So much fruit and candy notes that I like to have in bourbon from time to time. I know the full proof single barrels get all the hype, but these are great options as well.
