Description: Octomore 7.3
Spirit: Scotch
Background: Part of the 7th release of Octomore. Like all X.3s, it uses 100% barley grown on Islay. This one was aged in ex-Bourbon and Ribera Del Duero Spanish Wine casks for a minimum of 5 years. The malt registered 169 PPM. I’ve enjoyed most Octomore releases to this point so I’m looking forward to this.
Distillery – Bruichladdich
Bottler – Bruichladdich
Brand – Octomore
Selection – N/A
ABV – 63%
Age – 5 Years
Nose – Lemon curd, sweet bbq sauce, warm embers, smoked chocolate, red apple
Taste – Creamy caramel, smoked chocolate, raspberry syrup, coffee with heavy cream, light hint of some fruit
Finish – Chocolate, charred oak, smoky peat, sweet cream, juicy fruit gum, peaty embers just stay on the tongue
Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? I saw an auction that ended under $200 for it. Definitely would for that price
Thoughts: This is just peaty goodness. Punchy with smoke, sweet and rich, embers stay in your mouth. There’s a slight hint of fruit I suspect is from the wine, but the distillate is front and center here and if you are a peat head, you will love it
