Review #467 – Cardinat 1984 35 Year Armagnac: K&L Wines

Review #: 467
Description: Cardinat 1984 35 Year Armagnac: K&L Wines
Spirit: Armagnac

Background: This is a 35 year Armagnac from Domaine Cardinat.  Distilled in 1984, this cask was exclusive to K&L Wines in California and bottled at cask strength.

Distillery – Domaine Cardinat

Bottler – Domaine Cardinat

Brand – Domaine Cardinat

Selection – K&L Wines

ABV – 55%

Age – 35 Years

Nose – Dr. Pepper, stewed plums, dark chocolate, rich leather, toasted marshmallow, almond cookie
Taste – Dark raspberry, grape juice, cola, ginger, oak, some tannins, light coffee.  Just a bit thinner than expected given the age and proof
Finish – Big oak and spice, cherry hard candy, leather, tobacco, a little dry but not bad

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? When it was available, this was $90.  That’s one helluva deal

Thoughts: This has all the stats you could want and I think backs it up.  The only thing that caught me off guard was that I was expecting a bit more thick and chewy texture across the tongue, but I am nitpicking.  This is a great balance of fruit and oak and was a great value when it came out.
