Description: Gordon & MacPhail Ledaig 2004 – Broken Barrel Club
Spirit: Scotch
Background: This is a single barrel of peated Tobermory. Bottled by Gordon and MacPhail, it was selected by the “Broken Barrel Club” which I believe is based in Hawaii. Aged in refill Bourbon barrels, it was distilled in 2004 and bottled on February 23rd of 2021.
Distillery – Tobermory
Bottler – Gordon & MacPhail
Brand – Gordon & MacPhail
Selection – Broken Barrel Club
ABV – 54.5%
Age – 16 Years
Nose – Sea salt, lemon juice, wet ash, ginger bread, leather. Almost reminds me of those “cigar batch” aburana finishes
Taste – Vanilla cream, lemon curd, light fruit, toasted oak, sweet with a nice mouthfeel
Finish – Dirty and ashy, black pepper, light sulfur. This is a real meaty and peaty finish
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: A fine peated whisky, but nothing super crazy or getting me really excited. Had a bit higher hopes for this and while it’s fine to drink, it’s just not getting elevated to that level I was wanting given the stats
