Review #484 – Roulaison Overproof Rum

Review #484 – Roulaison Overproof Rum

Review #: 484
Description: Roulaison Overproof Rum
Spirit: Rum

Background: This is a Louisiana distillery that hails its name from the French-Creole term used for the sugarcane harvest.  They use Louisiana molasses and claim to ferment for 2-3 weeks for their overproof rum.

Distillery – Roulaison
Bottler – Roulaison

Brand – Roulaison

Selection – N/A

ABV – 57.5%

Age – Unaged

Nose – Rubbing alcohol, plastic, a little bit of molasses, coffee, some grass, dark chocolate
Taste – Chocolate, cream, simple syrup, molasses
Finish – There’s like a funky body order or stinky cheese aspect that comes in.  There’s some chocolate and molasses in the background but it’s taken over by this gross funk that dominates

Score: 2
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: It really was fine to smell and then taste, but once I swallowed, I knew something was just so off.  It’s kind of hard to pin down the actual flavor, but it is so punchy and distinct that it’s hard to pull anything else from the rest of the experience.
