Description: Oban Little Bay
Spirit: Scotch
Background: A coastal distillery in the Highlands, Oban falls under the Diageo portfolio of scotches. Little Bay states on the label that it is aged using their smallest casks so I would guess they do some quarter cask finishing? It’s supposed to be a bit more available and affordable since it doesn’t carry an age statement.
Distillery – Oban
Bottler – Oban
Brand – Oban
Selection – N/A
ABV – 43%
Age – NAS
Nose – Kind of reminds me of Special K cereal, bran, malt, strawberry, pear, light honey. Simple but nice.
Taste – Light sweetness, little bit of malt, little bready, honey
Finish – Some honey, black pepper, toasted bread, slightly tannic oak
Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: When I picked this up, I paid $35 in 2019. It’s inoffensive and is pretty approachable and probably makes for a good cocktail malt. At that price, I wouldn’t mind keeping it around for mixed drinks and sharing with less experienced drinkers. But now it’s lille $70+ and it just doesn’t bring much exciting to the table.
