Review #502 – Benriach The Original Ten

Review #502 – Benriach The Original Ten

Review #: 502
Description: Benriach The Original Ten
Spirit: Scotch

Background: The standard bottling for the revamped Benriach line, they use a sweet mash to distill their barley.  This one is unpeated and aged 10 years in a mixture of bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak.

Distillery – Benriach

Bottler – Benriach

Brand – Benriach

Selection – N/A

ABV – 43%

Age – 10 Years

Nose – Honey and fruit; apple, pear, strawberry, chocolate, roasted tree nuts, nice oak which I would guess to be the virgin oak is doing a lot of the work their but it’s all harmonious
Taste – A continuation of the nose with some sweetness of barley and honey and then more bright fruit with apple and strawberry
Finish – Peppery, bread-y malt, pear turns a bit tart,  nice oak but a bit short

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Really a nice whisky and lots going on for an “entry” single malt.  Nice oak and lots of fruit.  A great foundation for their line.
