Review #507 – Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered

Review #: 507
Description: Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Kicking off the 30 for 30, Smoke Wagon is a brand out of Las Vegas.  Purchasing MGP stock and then aging in Nevada, Uncut and Unfiltered is just as it sounds.  A batched release at barrel proof, it’s become more and more available after it got a lot of recognition with the early releases but can now be found fairly easily and around $60 or so.  This particular bottle was filled on September 9th, 2022 and is batch 158a.

Distillery – MGP

Bottler – Smoke Wagon

Brand – Smoke Wagon

Selection – N/A

ABV – 57.04%

Age – NAS

Nose – Cherry, milky caramel, sweet corn, tobacco, dates, nice background oak
Taste – Quite sweet with caramel, maple, maraschino cherry, buttery texture to it but a real sugary taste as well
Finish – Roasted corn, black coffee, a slight bitterness with pepper and oak, little bit of that cherry hangs on too.

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Probably a good representation of MGP to kick off this series.  This is just some good bourbon.  Hits those major notes, nothing revolutionary but everything enjoyable.  This is the perfect thing to give to someone who might say that only Kentucky can make “real” bourbon.
