Review #538 – Doorly’s 3

Review #538 – Doorly’s 3

Review #: 538
Description: Doorly’s 3 Year
Spirit: Rum

Background: Coming back to Barbados and the Doorly’s brand, the 3 year is aged in American Oak and then is filtered out to get the “white” color to it.  It’s very cheap but it is aiming to fill that lightly aged but mostly clear rum for cocktailing.

Distillery – Foursquare

Bottler – Foursquare

Brand – Doorly’s

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – 3 Years

Nose – Cooked banana, coconut sun cream, burnt wood, kind of this sweet wet earth note in there.  Nothing is super strong and the low ABV can already be felt
Taste – Creamy caramel, vanilla syrup, honeydew melon, has a decent texture to it
Finish – Alcohol is short but there is a burnt wood/caramel note that actually works with it that has a fair length to it

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle?  It’s solid and cheap for house cocktails

Thoughts: I think they are hitting exactly what they are going for here.  It’s got some interesting notes without being too weird or off putting.  It’s ok to drink neat but it really is going to do its work as a white rum in cocktails when you want a high quality ingredient since it’s not dosed.  $20 for a handle, perfect to bring over for simple drinks or parties.
