Description: Peat’s Beast Batch Strength PX
Spirit: Scotch
Background: Peat’s Beast is an Independent Bottler out of Scotland, focusing on “intensely peated” scotch. They have 4 expressions: Peat’s Beast (46%), Batch Strength, Batch Strength PX, and a 25 Year Islay Single Malt. This is the Batch Strength PX which takes the batch strength and adds on a 9 month finish in Pedro Ximenez sherry barrels. This is a single malt, but I am unsure of the distillery that it comes from. I’ve seen that it could be from Islay, but their website only specifies the 25 year as being from Islay, and you’d figure they would advertise that if it were true for the other offerings. I’ve also seen speculation of BenRiach but I have nothing conclusive. Un-chillfiltered and no color added, let’s see if it really is a peated beast.

Thoughts: While this wasn’t nearly the peaty beast it’s hyped up to be, I find it to be very delicious. The taste is almost decadent and the px brings in some earthy fruit and nuttiness to round it out until the smoke comes in and lingers on the tongue. I grabbed this for around $60 and I think it’s a great value.
