Review #70 – Arran 18 Year

Review #70 – Arran 18 Year

Review #: 70
Description: Arran 18 Year
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This is an 18 year old bottling from Arran. Aged in ex-sherry casks, this is noted as the “new” bottling, as some have found a change in the characteristics from older bottlings. Non-chillfilltered and natural colors, let’s see how it tastes.

Distillery – Arran

Bottler – Arran

Brand – Arran

Selection – N/A

ABV – 46%

Age – 18 Years

Nose – Tons of fruit! Cherry, raspberry, honeysuckle, floral with sugar malt and some toasted barrel
Taste – More tart and sweet fruit, raspberry, strawberry, cherry pie filling, syrupy texture
Finish – A little bit of bitterness, peppery, strong malt, tart lemon

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: This was a blast of fruit and played well along the line of sweet and tart.  The finish was a bit of a let down compared to the nose and taste.  I wish it had a slight bump in proof.  Doesn’t necessarily need to be cask strength, but maybe at 50% this would really hit the spot for me. At around $100 for a bottle, I probably will pass.
