Description: Finlaggan Cask Strength
Spirit: Scotch
Background: Finlaggan is an independent bottling of an Islay single malt. Little else is known about the whisky. It is likely young, but at this price point, there aren’t too many cask strength options, so let’s see if it’s too good to be true.
Distillery – Undisclosed
Bottler – Vintage Malt Whisky
Brand – Finlaggan
Selection – N/A
ABV – 58%
Age – NAS
Nose – Smoked chocolate, peach, wood, pickle?
Taste – Ethanol hits pretty hard at first, rich cocoa, syrupy, maple & vanilla
Finish – Black pepper, brine, dill, lasting heat
Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: The nose and taste are pleasant enough even though the youth shows up, but then the finish is kind of all over the place and takes the experience in a negative direction. For the price, it’s not bad for wanting higher proof cocktails or to have at a party, though I prefer my peat by itself rather than trying to work with it as an ingredient.
