Review #80 – Old Weller Antique: Fine Wine and Good Spirits

Review #80 – Old Weller Antique: Fine Wine and Good Spirits

Review #: 80
Description: Old Weller Antique: Fine Wine and Good Spirits
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Old Weller Antique is one of the offerings from Buffalo Trace’s wheated mashbill, it generates quite a bit of excitement in the bourbon community but has also received scrutiny over some recent bottle changes and price increase. This is a single barrel selected by Fine Wine and Good Spirits, the state run stores for Pennsylvania.

Distillery – Buffalo Trace

Bottler – Buffalo Trace

Brand – Weller

Selection – Fine Wine and Good Spirits

ABV – 53.5%

Age – NAS

Nose – Lots of ethanol, pear crumble, faint cinnamon, wood (not like pleasant oak, but like a stick you found in some leaves)
Taste – Caramel apple, sweet cornbread
Finish – Yeasty bread, barrel spice with cinnamon and pepper, long and lingering heat that doesn’t do much

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: A commonly loved bottle, but there wasn’t anything special here.  I don’t even have much to say about it. Meh
