Review #81 – Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve: Bourbon Street Wine & Spirits

Review #: 81
Description: Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve: Bourbon Street Wine & Spirits
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Knob Creek is a brand under the Beam portfolio and recently has taken off with their success of the single barrel program. Well priced, high proof, and a 9 year age statement (with selections fairly common at the 15 year range) the stats are all there. This barrel was selected by Bourbon Street Wine and Spirits in New Jersey. Aged for 14 years, 359 days in Warehouse W-X, Floor F-08 and Rick R-051.

Distillery – Jim Beam

Bottler – Jim Beam

Brand – Knob Creek

Selection – Bourbon Street Wine & Spirits

ABV – 60%

Age – 14 Years

Nose – Honey, peanut brittle, a little grassy, mint? Ethanol is there but kept in check
Taste – Thick, caramel, maple syrup, sweet cherry cough syrup
Finish – Long and spicy, rich barrel spices, dry leather

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: These old Knob Creek picks offer great value in the bourbon world.  The high proof and heavy mouth feel is great and the flavor is there to back it up.  It’s nothing mind blowing, but I’d bet this is around the floor for these single barrels, and even then it is tasty.
