Review #85 – Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C919

Review #: 85
Description: Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C919
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Outside of the regular small batch, Heaven Hill releases 3 batches of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof per year. Maintaining the 12 year age statement, this is batch C919 denoting that it is the third (C) batch released in September (9) of 2019 (19). Let’s see how it tastes, especially compared to B519.

Distillery – Heaven Hill

Bottler – Heaven Hill

Brand – Elijah Craig Barrel

Selection – N/A

ABV – 68.4%

Age – 12 Years

Nose – Pancakes and maple syrup, smoldering campfire, cinnamon candy, orange peel
Taste –  Maple syrup, kettle corn, caramel apple, cherry cordial
Finish – Cinnamon spice lingers a long time, musty leather, baking spices

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Despite the higher proof, I don’t find this as hot or brash as 519.  This delves deeper into flavors and complexity and elevates it to a better drink than the other batch.  This was very enjoyable and probably would be neck and neck with Stagg Jr. despite my love towards it.
