Description: Ballechin Straight From The Cask Bordeaux 2005
Spirit: Irish Whiskey

Background: Ballechin is the peated line from Edradour Distillery, with the SFTC (straight from the cask) series having no filtration or dilution. This was distilled on the 6th of December, 2005 and bottled on September 13th, 2017 and aged in a bordeaux wine cask. Let’s dive in.

Age – 11 Years

Nose – Smoked plums, raisins, dates, fruity pebbles, honey nut cheerios, banana
Taste – Stewed cherries, sea salt, strawberry jelly, ashy
Finish – Sweet and sour, sea salt and ash linger long

Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: This was a crazy pour and tons of great influence from the wine casks but it worked really well with the peatiness.  Sweet fruit and smoke is a winning combo for me and this provided it.  I think if I bought a bottle I’d be disappointed it was only 500mL.
