Review #447 – Old Crow 6 Year (1970s)

Review #: 447
Description: Old Crow 6 Year (1970s)
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: Old Crow is one of the fawned after National Distiller’s brand, especially for the Chessmen decanters.  This is the 6 year bourbon from some time in the 70s, so well older than myself.

Distillery – National Distillers

Bottler – National Distillers

Brand – Old Crow

Selection – N/A

ABV – 43%

Age – 6 Years

Nose – Caramel, maple syrup, toasted almonds, cherrywood, sweet tobacco, fresh bread
Taste – Sweet cream, lemon curd, butterscotch, cherry cordial, nice buttery texture
Finish – Toasted cornbread, dark cherries and plums, really strong oak.  Lovely

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Probably wouldn’t pay auction prices but whoever does won’t be upset

Thoughts: Just really great flavor top to bottom, complex and tasty.  One of the biggest things I have found with these older bottlings is how much texture comes across even at such low proofs.  This makes me keep wanting to go back for more but sadly I only have 2 ounces.
