Distillery – Westland

Bottler – Westland

Brand – Westland

Selection – K&L Wines

ABV – 59%

Age – 3 Years

Nose – Coffee, raisins, dates, red apple, nice toasted malt, bubblegum, beer
Taste – Rich coffee, sticky fruit jam, fruit punch, cinnamon chip scones
Finish – More coffee, warm sourdough bread, toasted nuts, torched cherry.  Warm but not bad

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? These are over $100 which is hard to swallow for a young malt, but damn if this doesn’t compete with scotches at that price point.

Thoughts: Color me impressed.  There’s definitely a lot of barrel influence, but it’s not covering up deficiencies in the distillate.  It’s sweet, but a nice dance between the malt and the wine.  Westland is one to keep your eyes on and I’ll probably be splurging for a single cask at some point this year.
